Ryder Cup wild card hopeful Luke Donald saved par from six feet on the eighth and then pitched to five feet for another birdie on the ninth to complete a superb round of 65, beating the previous course record by a shot.
At 10 under par, he is three clear of Ireland’s Paul McGinley who finished on seven under par today.
Henrik Stenson and Peter Hanson are snapping at his heels on six under. Hanson has two holes left to play.
Donald, whose 65 was his lowest on the European Tour by three shots, said: ``I've had a good year so far in America and it's nice to come over to Europe and play some good golf over here just to remind everyone I still exist and still am European.
“These few weeks are very important and if I can play well and sneak a win then it’s going to get Bernhard Langer’s attention.
“I have an outside chance of a wild card I think, I would hope I would be on his mind at least.”
