Tony Blair today demonstrated his support for the new Band Aid song when he bought two copies of the single.

Staff at HMV in Edinburgh city centre were taken aback when he strolled through the doors this morning at 9am surrounded by aides and local police.

Downing Street confirmed that Mr Blair paid in cash for two copies of the Band Aid 20 Do They Know it’s Christmas? Hit at the Princes Street store.

The Band Aid 20 hit is on course to notch up at least 300,000 sales. Sales yesterday were around 40,000 copies – in line with Wednesday’s figure and the overall pattern for the week.
