A substantial cash reward was offered today for information which leads to the capture of a gang who viciously attacked a south Dublin man leaving him hospitalised for the last year.
Crimestoppers, the anonymous freephone crime-fighting service, launched the appeal on the anniversary of the assault on Vincent O’Brien.
Mr O’Brien, from Bluebell, was attacked by a group of men in their late 20s at 2.45am on Thursday, August 18, 2005 on Huband Road, Bluebell, near the Bernard Curtis Flats.
He has not left a Dublin hospital since and is now totally dependent on care due to the extremely serious injuries he sustained.
Crimestoppers is offering a substantial cash reward for information that could help the gardai apprehend the culprits.
Thousands of leaflets appealing to the public for useful information were distributed earlier this year to households in the Bluebell area and more will be distributed in the area over the coming week.
Crimestoppers spokesperson Paula Eager said: “We are hoping that one year on since the attack this appeal will help refresh memories.
“Someone must have information that will help bring charges against the people responsible for this assault.”
“We believe that future attacks can be prevented if people come forward now with any information that leads to a prosecution.”
Anyone who thinks they can help the Gardaí with their enquiries can call Crimestoppers free on 1800250025.
Callers do not need to leave their name or their address. The caller’s anonymity is assured at all times.
The Crimestoppers campaign is funded by the Department of Justice, Dublin Bus, Ulster Bank, the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland, Irish Rail, An Post, Penneys, Ladbrokes and Dublin City Council.
