Fine Gael today launched the latest phase of its national billboard campaign to hammer home its policies in local communities.
The main opposition party’s two-week "Ireland Deserves Better" drive will promote its solutions in the areas of health, crime and public spending.
Leader Enda Kenny also aims to address public meetings in every county during May and June.
The party identified new policy ideas at its weekend Ard Fheis, including tagging offenders on bail and imposing fines on drunks at A&Es.
Mr Kenny also vowed to sack ministers in his government if they wasted taxpayers’ money or didn’t meet clear targets.
Judges must be accountable to the Oireachtas in imposing prison sentences for serious crimes, he told delegates.
He told today’s launch in Dublin: “It is now important that Fine Gael takes these ideas to the public and sells them as genuine, practical solutions to the problems facing ordinary people in their everyday lives.”
The campaign will feature on outdoor billboards, bus shelters and at Dart and Arrow stations.
Local party organisations will also drop up to 300,000 flyers to households around the country.
“Through this mix of activity, Fine Gael’s approach to tackling the problems that affect people on a day-to-day basis will prove persuasive and secure the support needed to put us, with Labour, in a position to replace this Government with a better alternative."
