Birmingham v Liverpool

Birmingham v Liverpool

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson included defender Paul Konchesky, signed last month from Fulham, in his starting line-up for the Barclays Premier League clash at Birmingham in place of Daniel Agger.

Another newcomer in midfielder Raul Meireles – signed from Porto for £11.5m – had to be content with a place among the substitutes.

The other change from the side which defeated West Brom two weeks ago saw the injured Dirk Kuyt (shoulder) replaced by Maxi Rodriguez.

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish named the side which drew 2-2 at Bolton after Alexander Hleb, signed on loan from Barcelona, was ruled out with an ankle injury.

Defender Martin Jiranek, signed from Spartak Moscow, was on the bench.
