IMO chief urges cigs and booze tax hike

The head of the Irish Medical Organisation, Joe Barry, has urged the Government to increase alcohol and tobacco taxes in the budget.

The head of the Irish Medical Organisation, Joe Barry, has urged the Government to increase alcohol and tobacco taxes in the budget.

He was speaking on the IMO's budget submission to the Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy.

Dr Barry says that such tax hikes could then be spent on the health services.
