Health Minister Micheál Martin is said to be considering legal action against the insurance company that withdrew cover from a number of consultant obstetricians.

It's understood that the Minister may support a case being taken by one of the consultants who has been left without insurance cover.

The Irish Hospital Consultants Association will meet Micheál Martin next week to discuss what course of action to take next.

Seven obstetricians with impending legal cases against them have been left without insurance cover by the MDU.
