Irish drivers filled two of the top three places in the first of today’s British Formula 3 Scholarship Class races at Brands Hatch.

The race was won by Belfast’s, Matthew Gilmore from Robbie Kerr (UK) with Clonakilty’s, Michael Keohane third. It was an unchanged order throughout the 26-lap race.

Gilmore’s twenty points for a win and a point for fastest lap reduces Kerr’s championship lead to 23 points.

Meanwhile, Keohane, in his Weathermaster/Clonakilty Black Pudding car solidifies his third place championship position.

In the A Class, Dungannon’s, Derek Hayes was third behind Carlin Motorsport duo, Takuma Sato (champion) and race winner, Anthony Davidson.

In the Ford Fiesta race, Colin Turkington gave the Irish their first win of the day. The Portadown driver is now just five points behind series leader, Nick

Padley with one round remaining.

Eoin Murray was sixth.

Meanwhile, Dave Weston, in a Subaru, leads the Scottish Rally after special stage 9. He’s over a minute ahead of the Escort WRC of Brian Bell with the

Subaru Impreza of Raymond Munro, third.

Eamonn Boland in fifth is best of the Irish.

Throughout yesterday’s stages his Subaru WRC struggled with a misfire.

Rory Galligan is in sixth place and tops the Peugeot Super 106 contenders.

Ryan Champion is second in this category with Irishman, Gary Jennings, the pre-event leader in fifth.

Retirements from the national event included long time leader Mark Higgins - his Subaru caught fire while Alistair Ginley stopped when his Irish co-driver, Rory

Kennedy injured his finger. The Donegal driver was holding the gear linkage in position when the incident took place.
