Prison officers at Castlerea Prison in Co Roscommon are due to take industrial action tomorrow to highlight their concerns about bullying and sexual harassment.

A number of harassment cases have apparently arisen in the prison in recent times, including one involving a female staff member who was allegedly sexually harassed by a male prisoner.

The Prison Officers Association said the response from prison management to several complaints was negative and totally unacceptable.

Tomorrow's work stoppage will be the first industrial action by prison officers for 15 years.
