The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has met the family of a 28-year-old Dubliner who was allegedly murdered by an IRA member earlier this year.

Joseph Rafferty was shot dead outside his apartment in the Ongar area in the west of the city last April.

His family believe he was killed as a result of a dispute with a local family and that the gunman was an IRA member who is active in Sinn Féin.

The case has been compared to the murder of Robert McCartney in Belfast in January, which led to a major backlash against Sinn Féin.

That murder was also allegedly carried out by an IRA member.
