Govt to delay Judge Curtin motion

The Government motion to investigate Judge Brian Curtin will not be heard this week, despite commitments given by the Taoiseach.

The Government motion to investigate Judge Brian Curtin will not be heard this week, despite commitments given by the Taoiseach.

Last week Bertie Ahern told the Dáil that a motion to investigate Judge Curtin would be put before the Dáil tomorrow.

The motion would set up the Committee of TDs and Senators who will eventually investigate Judge Curtin behind closed doors.

It is understood that the Cabinet will consider the motion but it will not be put before the Dáil for consideration.

It could be next week before the Dáil formally hears the motion.

Meanwhile fine Gael leader Enda Kenny is calling on Michael McDowell to explain his role in the appointment of Judge Curtin to the bench three years ago.

Enda Kenny has said Michael McDowell as Attorney General raised questions about the character of Judge Curtin threes years ago but still approved his appointment.
