Yvonne Ridley has reportedly arrived in Pakistan after being released by her Taliban captors.

The British journalist is said to have crossed the Afghan border. The reports come from the BBC correspondent in Peshawar.

Reports from Afghanistan had earlier suggested Ms Ridley was heading to the Pakistani border to meet British Embassy officials.

Neither her employers nor the Foreign Office could confirm the reports and said efforts were being made to establish what the situation was.

Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef, the Taliban ambassador to Pakistan, said the mother-of-one was freed from Kabul at 12 noon local time, according to reports.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We are doing all we can to verify these reports which we very much hope are true."
