Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts wants to appear in 'Downton Abbey'.

Roberts is a huge fan of the ITV1 period drama and dreams of being offered a cameo role.

She told the Daily Star newspaper: "I'm obsessed with that show. I would love to be in it, even if it was just for one episode."

The 26-year-old star said her obsession with the programme has shocked her friends - because she has started to feel the events played out on the show are real life.

"It's so amazing, I actually feel like it's real life. My friends all think I'm really weird."

Meanwhile, the second series of 'Downton Abbey' - which won six Emmy awards last year - has more than doubled US network CBS' viewing figures.

The season kicked off Stateside with morethan seven million people tuning in.

An insider said: "The Americans can't get enough of it. They love the costumes and the accents. It's causing a big splash over here."

Nicola isn't the only star who wants to appear on the programme.

Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith Crawley in 'Downton', revealed recently that Harrison Ford has expressed an interest in taking a role in the period drama.

She explained: "We're so popular Harrison Ford wants a part."
