Curragh an option for Markab

Trainer Henry Candy has a Group Three sprint at the Curragh next month as a possible next-race target for Markab.

Trainer Henry Candy has a Group Three sprint at the Curragh next month as a possible next-race target for Markab.

The evergreen nine-year-old was only beaten a length by Hitchens at Newmarket last week in his first race for three months.

Following on from that decent effort, Candy is now eyeing either the Listed Garrowby Stakes at York on September 9 or the Group Three Newbridge 200 Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh on September 15 for his stable stalwart.

“He’s come out of the race very well,” said the Kingston Warren handler. “He wants top of the ground. There’s a Group Three at the Curragh next month and a Listed race at York at a similar time.

“Hopefully he will able to go to one of those.”

Markab is no stranger to the Curragh, having won the Group Three Greenlands Stakes in May, 2010.
