The way has been cleared for 150 armed forces reservists to be used to help in the ongoing military operations against Afghanistan, the British Ministry of Defence said today.
Most of the staff needed would be specialist RAF personnel and the majority would be based in the UK, said a spokesman.
‘‘We are considering asking a small number of specialists to volunteer and they will be based mostly in the UK,’’ he said.
Most of the reservists would be RAF specialists supporting the work of other RAF personnel helping with US-led military operations against Afghanistan.
‘‘We may call on people with necessary specialisms or some others with specialist skills to augment those working full time,’’ the spokesman said.
It is believed that the reservists involved would have skills in areas such as intelligence or the media.
The volunteers would probably be approached in due course, he added.
