IMO to discuss Croke Park deal at anuual conference

The Irish Medical Organisation will begin its annual conference in Kerry this afternoon.

It is expected that the proposed cuts under Croke Park 2 will top their agenda, while proposed pay cuts for GPs and the long hours worked by some medical professionals will also be discussed.

The IMO is also expected to discuss the issue of abortion, after the HSE report into the death of Savita Halappanavar.

The union are one of many who have called on their members to vote against the extension to the deal.

Meanwhile, the Civil and Public Services Union is calling on the Government not to force through the cuts if unions vote them down.

The union argues that the proposals will not make the €1bn in savings as previously stated by the Coalition.

And they claim that, by lowering the pay of 300,000 middle income earners, the economy will be pushed further into recession.
