The Director of Corporate Enforcement Paul Appleby said today that his office is now focusing on the final two strands of the investigation into Anglo Irish Bank.
In his office's End of Year Statement for 2011, Paul Appleby said that further papers will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions regarding Anglo in a matter of weeks.
Mr Appleby said that his office dealt with 1,960 new reports and complaints last year, and determined more than 1,900 cases - its highest ever total.
The investigation into Anglo Irish Bank dominated much of the ODCE's resources, however.
Mr Appleby said that his office sent substantive investigation files on two strands of the Anglo investigation to the DPP last year, and sent three supplementary files two weeks ago.
These all relate to the provision of loans by Anglo to a number of people in 2008 to buy some of the bank's shares and the failure to maintain a register of the transactions between Anglo and its directors prior to 2009.
Mr Appleby said that his staff are now focusing on the remaining two strands of the investigation, and more papers will be sent to the DPP in a matter of weeks.
In addition, a detailed report on the Anglo investigation will be made to the High Court by the end of the month.
