A professional poker player from Germany has won an $8.7m jackpot in Las Vegas.

A professional poker player from Germany has won an $8.7m jackpot in Las Vegas.

Twenty-two-year-old Pius Heinz has won the World Series of Poker championship, the game's most prestigious title.

He came out on top of a field of nearly 7,000 players from 85 countries.

Heinz, from Cologne, said it was the best day of his life.

He said he would invest most of the money and that "within my family, there are a couple of wishes I think I can help with".
