A 21-year-old male pedestrian who was struck by a car on Dublin's Parnell Rd in the early hours of this morning has died in hospital.

A 21-year-old male pedestrian who was struck by a car on Dublin's Parnell Rd in the early hours of this morning has died in hospital.

The man was pronounced dead at St. James’s Hospital this afternoon.

An 18-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with this incident.

He is currently detained at Sundrive Road Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The collision occurred around 2am this morning.

The car (a 96D Green Nissan Micra) was left at the scene but the driver failed to remain with it.

Gardaí believe there was pedestrian traffic in the area at the time and are appealing for witnesses to come forward and contact them at Sundrive Road on 01 6666600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
