The anti-Taliban opposition in northern Afghanistan was given warning of the US-led attacks.

The anti-Taliban opposition in northern Afghanistan was given warning of the US-led attacks.

The first secretary of the Afghan embassy says the opposition knew the US intended to attack military targets in Kabul and Kandahar.

Rahimullah says the opposition intended to launch its own offensive against the ruling Islamic militia in the near future.

He says they could make an attempt to enter Kabul.

When asked to be more specific, Rahimullah replied: "Maybe two days, maybe a week. It's a military operation so I can't specify."

Rahimullah says the Northern Alliance supported the US-led operation but says it should spare civilians.

"Of course, we support this action, on the condition that there is no damage to civilians," he added.
