David Beckham is to star in his own computer and video games series.

Rage, the computer games publisher and developer, has secured the exclusive worldwide rights to develop games featuring the England soccer captain.

The three year deal between Rage, Beckham and his agents, SFX, is expected to allow the games to go on sale this Christmas.

Rage says it has signed David Beckham because he is one of the most famous soccer stars in the world today and widely recognised as one of the game's most skilful players.

A company spokesman says: "He has helped Manchester United win numerous league and cup championships over the past few seasons and is also the current England national team captain. David is also an inspiration to thousands of young players and a strong role model for up and coming footballers."

The company says Beckham will have "creative input" into developing the games.

Paul Finnegan, managing director of Rage, says: 'David Beckham is without doubt one of the finest footballers in the world today and we are delighted to be developing and publishing David's only officially endorsed range of computer and video games.

"Rage has had a long history in creating excellent soccer game titles and we believe that, through the association with David, we can create a long term strong and global game franchise."
