Coyle considers Rodrigo start

Bolton manager Owen Coyle is debating whether to hand Rodrigo a shock start at Wembley.

Coyle will make one enforced change against Stoke on Sunday in the FA Cup semi-finals as striker Daniel Sturridge is ineligible.

Rodrigo, 20, on a season-long loan from Benfica, may be drafted in after coming off the bench in the victory against West Ham.

The Spanish striker has already shown his scoring touch in the reserves with a brace in his last outing.

Coyle is pleased with the player’s progress and said: “It has been a source of frustration that I have not been able to get him in the team.

“We want real competition in every area in the park and we have that now.”

Rodrigo arrived at the Reebok Stadium to gain experience of top flight English football only a month after signing a five-year deal with Benfica following his move from Real Madrid.

He has made three starts in the Barclays Premier League, scoring one goal in the process.

Coyle added: “There is no doubt Rodrigo is a big talent and will have a big role to play between now and the end of season.”
