Kurten wins Gothenburg Trophy

A victory in this evening's Gothenburg Trophy gave Ireland's Jessica Kurten her second major win in 24 hours at the Swedish World Cup show.

Though not contributing to her World Cup points ahead of tomorrow's final, the big jump-off triumph will no doubt increase the 38 year-old rider's confidence.

It also brought her total prize money after three days of competition at Gothenburg to more than €55,000.

Kurten was one of just seven through to the final round from a starting field of 34, and today piloted Lady Georgina Forbes's bay mare Quibell across the line a third of a second ahead of Germany's Ludger Beerbaum with the Hannoverian stallion Goldfever, with the USA's Peter Wylde in third place on Campino.

Beerbaum and Wylde took the same places, in reverse order, in last night's World Cup jump-off class, which Kurten also won.

Tomorrow she goes into the final phase of the World Cup with Castle Forbes Libertina, top of the rankings on a zero score, and a favourite to win the World Cup.
