The ISEQ index of Irish shares defied downbeat global trends to finish 29.29 points into positive territory at 7031.37.
The financials enjoyed mixed fortunes. Anglo Irish Bank fell 13c to €11.72, and AIB slipped by 2c to €18.60. Irish Life and Permanent rose 13c to 16.23 and Bank of Ireland rose 12c €13.50.
Shipping group Irish Continental saw one of the day's biggest increases jumping 50c to €10.40.
Ryanair fell 4c to €7.46 despite reporting a 25% rise in passenger numbers for November, compared with the same month last year.
The airline said it carried 2,197,373 passengers in November 2004 and 2,748,889 last month.
Construction company CRH rose 18c to €23.15
