Garda and naval divers searching for a missing fisherman off the coast of Valentia Island in Co Kerry have found the body of a man.
The search operation was launched and a body was recovered in the past hour. It has not been identified as yet.
The 32-year-old fisherman was with a group of anglers when he slipped and fell into the water late last night.
Valentia lifeboat and the local Knightstown Coastguard Unit with the Waterford Rescue helicopter are involved in the search.
Valentia Lifeboat operations manager Richard Foran said the area where the fisherman fell is notorious for people losing their lives.
“It’s a fantastic fishing spot but the problem is it is exposed to the Atlantic,” said Mr Foran.
“In bad weather conditions it can be absolutely treacherous but that was not the scenario last night. The poor man just fell in.”
