Ashley Cole, Edu and Robert Pires were all rested, so in came Gael Clichy, Cesc Fabregas and with Dennis Bergkamp restored to the attack, Jose Antonio Reyes switched to left midfield.
England defender Sol Campbell played his third game in a week since recovering from an Achilles injury.
Charlton striker Francis Jeffers missed out on the chance to face his former club because of a neck injury, so Kevin Lisbie and Jason Euell started up front.
Radostin Kishishev came into central midfield in place of Bryan Hughes, while fit again captain Matt Holland was named on the bench.
