A post-mortem examination will be carried out today on the body of a man which was found in a ditch.

It is believed the victim, who was in his early 20s, was stabbed to death before his body was dumped in west Dublin.

Detectives discovered the remains in a field close to Bellgree Avenue, Tyrellstown, yesterday afternoon.

A search was sparked in recent days after a tip-off that a missing man had been stabbed a week ago in another location and dumped in the area.

The body remained at the scene overnight pending the arrival of forensic officers and State Pathologist Marie Cassidy this morning.

Investigators have appealed to anyone who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious in the last seven days around Bellgree Avenue or the nearby playing fields to contact Blanchardstown garda station.
