Yesterday was one of the busiest days this year for Irish retailers, according to Chambers Ireland.
More than €220,000 was spent each and every minute yesterday in Ireland.
Up to 700,000 people hit the shops yesterday to take advantage of the Winter sales and clocked up a total spend of €120m.
Deputy Chief Executive of Chambers Ireland, Sean Murphy, said the pending increase in VAT in January has also helped encourage greater spending this Christmas.
