Hurler of the Year Michael Fennelly will not have a playing role in the upcoming Hurling All-Stars' trip to San Francisco.
It has been confirmed that Fennelly broke the scaphoid bone in his left wrist during his club Ballyhale Shamrocks' recent Kilkenny SHC final replay defeat to James Stephens.
It is the second time this year that the Kilkenny midfielder has suffered this particular injury, but he should be back for the start of the Cats' 2012 season.
Despite not being able to train and play, Fennelly is still expected to join his fellow All-Stars when they fly out to America on Wednesday, November 30.
Meanwhile, Kilkenny's long-serving manager Brian Cody is poised to be reappointed at a meeting of the County Board on Monday night.
The James Stephens clubman has been in charge of the county side since 1999, winning eight All-Ireland titles, 12 Leinster crowns and five National League titles.
