Colin Montgomerie has admitted that for one horrible moment at the weekend he thought he would never play again.
The moment came when Montgomerie's back was clicked during one of several visits to made to a London osteopath after pulling out of the English Open last Friday.
"I thought when it happened 'my career's over'," he said in Tulsa, where the US Open starts on Thursday.
Montgomerie added that he is not yet pain-free, but that the sessions had "unscrewed" things and he was able to play a full practice session with fellow Scots Paul Lawrie and Gary Orr.
One drive he hit drew applause from the gallery and the Scot, who has unhappy memories of some US Open crowds, commented: "They're the Tulsa branch of my fan club."
