Over the past few weeks, there have been many articles in relation to nationalistic-based rhetoric in Irish politics.
As we witness the emergence of far-right ideology within tIrish democracy, we have hit a cross junction.
The racist and belligerent remarks in regards to certain ethnicities from political groups and leaders of the world over is truly shameful and regrettable.
“Mass migration” has become a soft target for these far-right groups to thrive and gain popularity.
In terms of the Irish, it is truly a sad state of affairs when a people who themselves have had to endure the strains and hardships of migration for a peaceful and better life, display a sense of dismay and unease when other people flee their homes out of desperation for a new life.
As a result of this mass migration there has been a greater influx of various ethnicities to the island of Ireland over the past few years.
I understand that multiculturalism is new to Irish soil.
However, instead of looking at everything with a negative eye, why not look upon the mixing of different ethnic groups as a colourful flowerbed that not only produces a variety of sweet floral scents but also their assortment of colours become appeasing to the eye.
This is true diversity.
This is true multiculturalism. This is the true essence of céad míle fáilte.
