Sinn Féin to consider response to McDonald's Dáil suspension

Officials have been instructed to stop Sinn Féin's Mary Lou McDonald from entering the Dáil chamber if she tries to do so today.

The party's deputy leader is due to serve the second day of a suspension from the house after she staged a sit-in for several hours last Thursday, following a dispute with the Ceann Comhairle over her questioning of the Tánaiste.

Deputy McDonald isn't expected to repeat that disruption today, but the party will meet this morning to consider its response to her suspension.

"We certainly want to be in there representing people and we're not going to take second place," said Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley.

"We've been trying to get answers to questions for almost eight weeks.

"The Ceann Comhairle hasn't facilitated us to be able to get those answers."
