Iraqi car bomb kills three

Three Iraqi national guardsmen were killed today in car bombing north of the city of Baqouba, said the US military.

The blast happened two miles north of Baqouba.

A car bombing last Wednesday outside a police station in Baqouba, 35 miles north-east of Baghdad, killed at least 70 people and injured scores more.

Insurgents have targeted police and national guardsmen in recent months, accusing them of collaborating with US and coalition forces.

Major Neal O’Brien, a US army spokesman, said the blast killed three guardsmen and wounded four others.

“The continued targeting of Iraqi security force personnel undermines the security of all Iraqis and will only quicken the resolve of Iraqi security forces to provide a safe and secure environment,” he said.
