Labour minister insists party did not break promises to people

A former Labour minister is insisting that the party did not break its promises to people during its time in government.

Pat Rabbitte said that while they were not able to achieve all the things promised during the last election campaign, they still achieved their main goal of getting the economy back on track.

He also hit out at criticism from Sinn Fein, saying that it was very easy to criticise from the opposition benches.

Pat Rabbitte has defended Labour's record in government: “Labour didn’t break all its promises, Labour was unable to deliver on some of its promises.

“The fundamental one was to restore this economy, to correct the public finances, we didn’t have a Labour Government , we had a negotiated programme for Government, where Labour was in a two to one ratio of influence in that Government.”
