The magic of Harry Potter has smashed UK box office records again, Warner Bros announced today.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban took £23.8m (€35.5m) in its opening weekend.
It completes a hat-trick of opening weekend success as the record was previously held by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets which recorded £18.8m (€28.1m) followed by Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone at £16.3m (€24.3m).
From last week the film was shown in 535 cinemas across the UK and Ireland.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was published on July 8, 1999 and won the prestigious Whitbread Children’s Book of the Year prize.
