There are reports from the Al-Jazeera television station that British hostage Ken Bigley has appeared in a new video tape.

In the video, Mr Bigley is said to have made an appeal to the British Government to meet his kidnappers' demands.

“He doesn’t care about me, I’m just one person,” Bigley was heard saying, referring to Mr Blair.

The Jazeera announcer said that Mr Bigley accused Blair of lying and that the British prime minister was not conducting any negotiations to effect his release.

She also quoted Mr Bigley as saying that the kidnappers did not want to kill him.

He also reportedly urged that Iraqi women prisoners held by the US in Iraq be released, a condition the kidnappers had posed for his freedom.

At one point Mr Bigley, whose legs and hands were chained, cradled his head in one of his hands.

There have been conflicting, unsubstantiated reports on the fate of Bigley, 62 from Liverpool, who was kidnapped from in Baghdad on September 16 with two American colleagues.

Gruesome videos of the executions of the Americans, Eugene Armstrong and Jack Hensley, have appeared on the Internet.

A man who identified himself as Mr Bigley appeared on a videotape posted on an Islamic Web site a week ago weeping and pleading for Mr Blair to help save his life.
