Injury outlook not good for Wicklow skipper

Wicklow captain Leighton Glynn is unlikely to play again for the county this season after breaking his ankle against Meath last Sunday.

Wicklow captain Leighton Glynn is unlikely to play again for the county this season after breaking his ankle against Meath last Sunday.

Glynn collided with Cian Ward when he attempted to close down the Meath forward and was forced off before half-time in the Leinster SFC first round defeat at Dr Cullen Park.

The Rathnew clubman had been central to Wicklow's strong start against the Royals when they went 0-5 to 0-0 up, and they were still 0-8 to 0-7 ahead at the break.

However, the injury-enforced loss of Glynn and sending-off of midfielder James Stafford saw Wicklow slide out of contention and fall to a 0-16 to 0-11 defeat.

Wicklow GAA PRO Pat Mitchell confirmed: "The ankle is broken and Leighton has probably sustained ligament damage as well.

"The swelling is still too big to determine the ligament damage but he’ll go into hospital again on Friday morning and hopefully it can be judged then."
