Reading had shrugged off a five-game losing streakto beat Tottenham 3-1 at the Madejski Stadium last week and unsurprisingly Royals boss Steve Coppell made no changes to his starting line-up.

Amady Faye was missing from the Charlton ranks though suspension while a hamstring injury forced Souleyman Diawara to the sidelines, with the fit-again Dennis Rommedahl and Jonathan Fortune filling in as Reed opted to drop Darren Ambrose to the bench and reinstate Marcus Bent.
