Republicans have been accused of deliberately escalating violence after another night of clashes in the North overnight. Two police officers were injured and a house destroyed during the latest incidents in east Belfast.

Progressive Unionist leader David Irvine maintains that republicans in the Short Strand area deliberately started the violence last night and he believes that the trouble was politically motivated.

Sinn Fein’s Joe O’Donnell is claiming that rioting began when loyalists attacked nationalist’s homes. The violent incidents come just ahead of an Orange parade due to take place later in the North today.
