Gardaí in Co Clare have called off a search for a man who reportedly entered the river Fergus in Ennis early this morning.

The local man in his 20's was spotted entering the river at Club Bridge at around 2am.

The alarm was immediately raised and a search got underway at first light however as of yet there has been no sighting of the man.

The search has now been called off as weather conditions deteriorated but it's expected to resume again at first light in the morning.

Meanwhile, another search for a man who's thought to have fallen into the river Suir in Co Tipperary has also been called off for the day, due to bad weather.

Gardaí say the local man in his forties may have fallen from a bridge in Cahir town at around 10pm last night.
