Parlon hotly tipped to become next PD leader

Former Laois-Offaly TD Tom Parlon is being hotly tipped as the new leader of the Progressive Democrats this morning.

Former Laois-Offaly TD Tom Parlon is being hotly tipped as the new leader of the Progressive Democrats this morning.

Newspaper reports say acting leader Mary Harney has firmly ruled herself out of the running for the job and has also indicated that the PDs' second TD, Noel Grealish, is not interested in the position.

Mr Parlon, who is currently the party president, is reportedly expected to be the only nominee for the post.

This morning's reports say the PDs' national executive will meet tomorrow to decide on changing party rules to allow a non-TD take over the leadership.
