Temps to dip to -3 as thousands remain without power

Met Éireann is warning that temperatures are due to dip below freezing tonight as many people still remain without power.

A dry night could see temperatures drop to -3 in some parts of the country, with severe frost forming in some areas and icy stretches on untreated roads.

Some 60,000 homes still have no electricity while some will be forced to endure another night of the cold and darkness as ESB networks warns many faults won't be repaired this weekend.

Forecasters say most of the high winds have eased across the country, but there is a risk of spot flooding today as heavy rain continues to fall in some parts.

Pat Clarke of Met Éireann said: "It will be cold and frosty tonight with icy patches and very little wind."
