FG seeks Prison Service reform after Mountjoy blunder

Fine Gael is calling for a reform of the Prison Service following the mistaken release of a convicted robber from Mountjoy jail in Dublin.

Fine Gael is calling for a reform of the Prison Service following the mistaken release of a convicted robber from Mountjoy jail in Dublin.

Thirty-five-year-old Mark Kenny, from Ballyfermot in Dublin, was serving a six-year sentence and wasn't due to be freed until December 2010.

However, he was released earlier this week after being mistaken for another prisoner of the same name who was due to be freed after serving his time for road traffic offences.

Fine Gael TD Jim O'Keeffe says this is just the latest in a string of incidents that highlight the need for prison reforms.
