In addition three golfers – France’s Raphael Jacquelin, Austrian Markus Brier and Korean Yang Yong-eun – qualified off the European Order of Merit and and Americans Boo Weekley and Nick Watney earned places through the US Tour money list.

Choi has moved up from 32nd to 17th after coming from five shots back to win at Muirfield Village.

Welshman Bradley Dredge needed to finish in a two-way tie for second at Celtic Manor to grab an Open start, but by missing a six-foot par putt on the last when tied for the lead he slipped into a four-way share and moves up only to 54th.

Retief Goosen’s missed cut in Wales drops him to 11th and brings Padraig Harrington back into the top 10.
