Tiger Woods and David Toms kept the United States’ Presidents Cup bid on track despite the best efforts of a spirited International team at Royal Montreal.

After making a clean sweep of the morning foursomes to take a commanding seven-point lead, the Americans only need to win two of fourball matches to remain in control.

The US pairing of Woods and Toms were 4-up after 10 holes against Geoff Ogilvy and Nick O’Hern, seemingly on their way to an easy victory.

American duo Phil Mickelson and Woody Austin were in a tighter battle, all square after 13 holes against Adam Scott and Retief Goosen.

International pair Ernie Els and Mike Weir were 1-up after 11 holes against Charles Howell and Lucas Glover and K.J. Choi and Angel Cabrera led by the same margin after 14 holes against Jim Furyk and Stewart Cink.

Elsewhere, Vijay Singh and Stuart Appleby were 3-up after 11 holes against the US team of Steve Stricker and Hunter Mahan.
