Currie: 'Quiz me on Major affair'

Edwina Currie will return to her radio show for the first time tomorrow after revealing details of her affair with John Major – and has agreed to be quizzed by her listeners.

Radio 5 Live’s chief political correspondent John Pienaar will chair a discussion with the former MP answering questions for the first hour of the programme.

Currie challenged listeners today: “Come on-air if you’re tough enough – I can take it.”

The politician turned broadcaster went public about her affair with the former prime minister three weeks ago. Since then she has been off air, but has been publicising a volume of her diaries.

Currie, who hosts a three-hour 10pm show on Saturdays and Sundays, said it would give her a chance to “set the record straight” and pointed out she had “no regrets” about her revelations.

“The last three weeks have been some of the most dramatic and challenging of my life – I’ve been pilloried and praised; so much has been said and written about me,” she said.

“Now I can set the record straight when I’m back in the hot seat. I’m looking forward to confronting my detractors (and supporters) head on.

“I shan’t be afraid to stand my ground. The last few weeks have been a roller-coaster ride – all very exciting but very scary.

“I have absolutely no regrets about what I wrote in my diaries nor have I regretted publishing them.

“My intention was solely to help rewrite the history of the 1980s and 1990s when I was in Government. And that objective has been comprehensively achieved,” she added.
