FG calls for info on public finances

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has again called on the Taoiseach to instruct his ministers to release information about the state of the public finances.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has again called on the Taoiseach to instruct his ministers to release information about the state of the public finances.

Mr Kenny called on Bertie Ahern to release the material under the Freedom of Information Act within the week.

He said: "I am extremely disappointed that my request to the Taoiseach for full disclosure on the true state of the public finances is not to be provided for 28 days, at least.

"Dail Eireann returns on October 9, when Fine Gael will demand open-ended debate on the public finances situation and on the Flood Tribunal report.

"The Dail debate on the public finance situation should take place in an informed and constructive fashion but this will be impossible in the absence of real information and facts."

Mr Kenny concluded: "These matters are of grave public concern and the people deserve to know the truth."
