Newcastle's St James' Park ground is set to host England's World Cup qualifying game against Albania in September.
And Old Trafford is reportedly being lined up to stage the English side's final group game against Greece the following month.
The venue for the Albania game will be officially unveiled at a press conference due to be staged at St James' Park on Monday morning.
Confirmation of Old Trafford's role in England's qualifying campaign is, meanwhile, expected soon afterwards.
The English FA is committed to moving England games around the country while Wembley is being redeveloped and fixtures have already been organised at Villa Park, Anfield, Pride Park and White Hart Lane.
For the home game against Albania, Sven-Goran Eriksson will be looking for a fervent atmosphere at St James' Park.
Old Trafford, meanwhile, is the largest club ground in England and Manchester United provided eight members of Eriksson's first squad.
The FA were unable to confirm any details of the proposed arrangements just yet.
An FA spokesman said: "We are unable to confirm the venues for the fixtures against Albania and Greece at this moment in time."
