Defence Minister Willie O'Dea is due to travel to Chad today despite clashes involving Irish soldiers in the country over the weekend.

Mr O'Dea and Defence Forces chief-of-staff Dermot Early are due to spend three days in the country, during which they will visit the 400 Irish troops taking part in an EU peacekeeping mission.

The soldiers came under fire in the Goz Beida over the weekend, but nobody was injured in the violence and officials say the area is now calm.
