Jarno Trulli pulled off a stunning start to claim the lead of the Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona today.
The start of the race was interrupted by a protester who sprinted down the track waving a banner, before he was escorted off by marshals.
When the red lights went out, pole position man Michael Schumacher was slow to get away, giving Trulli the chance to surge into the lead in his Renault.
Takuma Sato held third in his BAR while Williams’ Juan Pablo Montoya dropped from second on the grid to fourth.
Jenson Button could not make any ground at the start and he ended the opening lap 14th, exactly where he had been forced to start by a mistake in qualifying.
Scotland’s David Coulthard, however, claimed two places to move into eighth.
